2005 Red with White Hardtop
Marvin & Zipra Morgan
I have wanted a Red Thunderbird since the first time I saw one in the mid 1950’s. I ordered my first one in 1977, a 1978 Russet Red with every option I could get, including a built-in CB radio. It died in the mid 1980’s of natural causes. In January 2014, I saw Bob Roberts driving a Merlot 2004 Thunderbird and I commented to my wife that I needed a T-bird convertible to drive around Lakeway after we moved. She replied, “Indeed you do; could you give up your Expedition?” To which I replied, “In a heartbeat.” I found a one-owner Torch Red 2005 Anniversary Edition with a Performance White removable hard top in Marshfield, MO via the internet with 36,500 original miles.
The production date was 3 Aug 2004, assembled at the Wixom, MI plant and it was delivered to Green Country Ford in Vinta, OK on 1 Sep 2004. It was purchased by the original owner on 27 Jul 2005, kept in Grove, OK until it was traded in on a new vehicle at Don Vance Ford in Marshfield, MO in mid-December 2013. After a couple of weeks of research, I flew to Missouri, purchased it 24 Jan 2014 and drove it the 700 miles back to Austin.
It is all original and was ordered in Torch Red with the Optional Removable Top in Performance White, Full Interior Color Accent Package and the Select Shift Transmission. I have replaced the tires, battery, spare tire and the catalytic converters. One spark plug and coil was replaced before I purchased it. The soft top is black.
It is powered by a 3.9 L (241 cu in) short stroke Jaguar AJ-35 Aluminum Block V8, 32 valve DOHC with variable valve timing, 10.75:1 compression ratio, 280 HP @ 6,000 RPM and 286 Ft. Lb. Torque @ 4,000 RPM. It is mated to a 5-speed transmission with a lockup torque converter and a 3.58:1 rear axle ratio. According to Car & Driver tests, 0-60 mph - 6.5 sec; Standing ¼ mile – 15.0 sec @ 95 mph; top speed (governor limited): 132 mph
